Wrote this about a year ago - thought it was good to share again. I wanted to share the conversation I had with my 8 year old last night...He was lying in bed and started crying saying he didn’t want to grow up and he didn’t want to die. The first thing I said was... Continue Reading →
Thoughts on Trauma
The most difficult part of trauma is that most people don't like to use the word trauma. There is a misunderstanding that trauma is "so bad". If you had a bruise, it's skin trauma. All of us have had a bruise, so all of us have had some kind of skin trauma. To others, skin trauma means something "really bad" like someone shaved off your face and wore it. Not all of us have had our faces removed, but we have all had trauma. And we need to talk about it - because trauma can only be healed by being processed
Catfish

We learn this truth in suffering. It... Continue Reading →
The eye of the needle
I randomly started pondering the idea of a rich man getting into heaven vs a camel getting through a needle. I thought about how it could be a mistranslation, or how it’s typically inferred to mean giving up possessions, but I’ve interpreted it that if you held a needle up and looked through at a... Questioning everything and deciding nothing
I'm dealing with a bunch of school stuff for the kids and it keeps bringing me back to these same several questions: -Is there a better way to educate kids? -Are we expecting too much of kids? -When do kids get to be kids? -When did childhood become synonymous with prep-for-adulthood? As if there is... Continue Reading →
