Maybe It’s Maybelline…

I thought I was sleeping, but you were there

You spoke to me without moving your lips

You came inside of me, like an old coat

You read me as easily as looking glass

I thought myself strong and fierce

Yet you found the strings and made me a puppet

So I danced to your flute, drawn on your words

You used my spine as a straw to draw out my life

You painted roses on my irises, as you blackened the sky

But now you have gone, and I see red

I don’t recognize the voices echoing in my head

With or without you, am I alive or dead?

My tongue has spilled so many emotions

My ears always deaf to reality’s colors

My sight long gone to sanity’s reason

Yet, in touch, I feel the pain still pulsing

You left my heartbeat a deadly trigger

But now you have gone, and I see red

I don’t recognize the voices echoing in my head

With or without you, am I alive or dead?

With the knees you’ve weakened, I stomp on glass

In a flood of teardrops, I float on breath serene

With the clarity of a diamond, I set sights anew

Thank you for the rips in the fabric of my skin and mind

You broke me down in every shape and form

It gave me strength beyond my passion

The mosaic of my body is beauty redefined
